Tristin Campbell

Nia Green Belt Teacher
Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, Canada

It is all thanks to my mother-in-law that I discovered Nia. I was a mother of two at the time, I have three young children now, and I was looking for something to get me out of the house. A friend of mine said why don't we try a pole dance class? I was pretty much game to try anything at that point to get me out of the house! The pole dance class was fun, but I needed something more than that.

I mentioned this to my mother-in-law and she asked if there was any Nia where I was living and like most people, I have faith that this will change, I asked what is Nia? She raved about her class with Ann Marie Lisch in Courtenay, BC, so I decided to look it up online. I had an intstant desire to teach Nia from the moment I saw the Nia website. Having never taught a class in my life I found this very curious. Not only was this my first thought looking at the Nia site it was also my husbands first words when he looked at the page, " hey you should teach this." It was destined to be. I tried a class and fell in love!

I jumped on the first White Belt training I could find so I could teach and began teaching immediately. I had no idea what a journey that would be. That was 7 years ago. I have since taken my green belt and hope to attend a blue belt training this year. The self growth that happens during a training has been monumental for me. They have changed my life in ways that is difficult to explain as it is so expansive. As a mother of three and a wife taking a week for myself was pretty much mind blowing. I am slowly getting better at carving out the much needed time to take care of myself. My family and children all see the benefit in this now and respect the importance of that space.

I was always a bit envious of people that had a deep passion for something that drives them and I feel so grateful to finally have mine, Nia!

I was fortuante enough to have parents that supported any activity I wanted to try as child. I became good at gymnastics, syncronized swimming, skating, snowboarding, rock climbing, ballet, karate, heck I was even on a skipping team! I never became passionate about any of them and I think that is what made Nia a match made in the stars for me. I love that Nia encompasses so many modalities. It keeps it exciting and ever changing.

Nia has helped me get into my body in ways I didn't know possible. I feel more physically fit and connected with myself than I ever have in my life. It has helped me grow on so many levels and meet so many amazing and interesting people. I find no greater joy than sharing Nia with my community and seeing the bliss on someones face after a class or watch emotions rise up as someone moves their body in ways they haven't in a very long time.

It is a great honor to share this practice. I hope to meet you on the dance floor soon!
