About me:

The reality that I get to share Nia as my passion and my profession delights and inspires me on a daily basis. Nia has been so deeply healing and transformational for me personally, and I feel honored to create a space of exploration and empowerment for others through this profound movement and lifestyle practice. I have been certified since 1996, and teaching since 2002. Nia taught me to feel at home in my body, mind, emotions, and spirit – and I celebrate the opportunity to share that feeling with others. I bring passion, playfulness, energy, enthusiasm, acceptance, and encouragement to students, blending my gentle approach into Nia's rocking and rolling spirit.

I am a member of Gateway Nia (St. Louis & Metro East areas) with a passion for co-creating community, and I love visiting other locations to experience Nia community and to share the dance. I am over-the-moon honored and thrilled to be part of the Next Generation Trainer (NGT) community, and look forward to joining the Nia Training Faculty and offering White Belt Trainings when my training is complete. As an NGT, I am called to (and incredibly excited to) develop a "Parents as Healers" program for adoptive parents and their healing journeys, inspired by my incredible, beautiful son and our own family's journey. I am amazed by where my Nia practice has taken me, and I delight in seeing students amaze themselves.

Why do you practice and/or teach Nia?

I can’t NOT! Halfway through my first class, I knew that I was meant to teach Nia – before I even knew how to pronounce the word. This came as quite a surprise, as I had never envisioned myself as a fitness professional. But that very first day, Nia woke up something in me that I had to follow. Nia called me. I answered, and I continue to answer as Nia calls me deeper and deeper.

Where and with whom do you take Nia classes and/or trainings?

My belt trainings have been with Debbie Rosas, Carlos AyaRosas, and Winalee Zeeb. My official NGT mentor is Casey Bernstein, and I look to all of the current trainers as my mentors, as well as to many others in the global teaching community. I am a perpetual student surrounded by amazingly inspired and inspiring colleagues. I take classes with my Gateway Nia friends and colleagues.

What is one thing most people don't know about Nia?

Nia is the owner’s manual to living in a human body efficiently, effectively, with purpose and pleasure! Nia is an intricately woven, impressively scientific, awesomely artistic, brilliantly comprehensive (though simple and accessible) path to physical fitness – though physical fitness is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what Nia has to offer. The potential to transform the landscape of body, emotions, mind, and spirit through Nia is vast and ever expansive.

What tip can you give someone who is considering trying Nia for the first time?

Be willing to get out of your own way and let yourself play! Prepare to be amazed – by Nia and by yourself. Allow Nia to transform you by inviting your best you to shine through.

What keeps you coming back to the dance floor?

The dance floor is where I meet myself over and over again; it's where I transform myself. It is where I sweat out what doesn’t serve me; where I trust the truth, peel the layers, heal the layers, shed my inhibitions, let my hair down, invite my inner self out, open to potential, leave footprints, get down to earth, unleash energy, pulse passion, cultivate creativity, manifest mojo, prime personal power, hold my heart, and dance my heart out.

It's where I find my authentic self, unleash my voice, howl with wolves, sing my soul, harmonize, tap my intuition, align heavenward, surprise myself, nestle into my cells, hear my body’s wisdom, touch my body’s stories, slip into my skin, get real, get down ‘n dirty, live alive, free myself, take leaps of faith, fly, catch the sky, stargaze, dream, paint the canvas, experience bliss, wave my magic wand, move my emotions, move my meditation, forgive, invite love in, honor my body as temple, make offerings, shapeshift, surrender, seal the deal, let my light shine, transform, blossom, find community, find my way back home, again and again and again.

The dance floor is where I am joy! It is where I celebrate.
