Nia Testimonial: Lori Hepp, Nia Graduate
I am a nationally certified massage therapist, member of Team Northrup, alumni of the prestegious Mama Gena's School of Womanly Arts NYC, and Nia Blue Belt.
Why do you practice and/or teach Nia?
I became enchanted with Nia after a womens wellness weekend with the beautiful Deb Kern. I went to this class at the retreat, not having a clue as to what Nia was. An hour later, as I lay in a pool of sweat, I wondered "Just what the hell did I do, and why do I like this so much?!" I took the White Belt Training, and immediately started teaching. That was 10 years ago.
Now I am feeling the pull to just be a student. There is such a profound bliss in blending in with the class, letting my body guide me, selling my soul to the music, and just dancing. PS: I was the sole Nia instructor in central Wisconsin for many, many years... not having the luxury of taking a class other than a video with Debbie and Carlos. So now, I am treating myself to being a student! Luxury, luxury!
Where and with whom do you take Nia classes and/or trainings?
I took my White Belt Training in Milwaukee, WI with Debbie and Carlos. Took my Blue Belt Training in Portland – again, with the masters. Now I take classes from the lovely Amy Noonan.
What is one thing most people don't know about Nia?
People can't understand the love of self that Nia brings – until they experience it.
What tip can you give someone who is considering trying Nia for the first time?
Just go and let your body guide you.
Who do you love?
