Nia Testimonial: Kim Lane, Nia Teacher
BA Fine Art: University of Cape Town, BEd
I've lived on four continents... so far. I was lucky enough to grow up in South Africa and to come of age with the birth of our new democracy. I've always been a maker, painter and creator, so I fell into a fine arts degree and taught high school art history – painting and drawing before starting my own creative painting business. I have two gorgeous boys and a beautiful husband; together we've traveled and explored, and at the moment we find ourselves in Morristown New Jersey where life is full and fluid and challenging every day.
Why do you practice and/or teach Nia?
Nia makes me feel like a rockstar! I've never taken a group excercise class where I've felt such a seamless, beautiful connection between my body, the moves and the music. Nia connects me to a community I love and respect. I have learned so much from all of the students and teachers I've had the privilege of dancing with over the past six years. I know my life is richer for it.
Where and with whom do you take Nia classes and/or trainings?
What is one thing most people don't know about Nia?
You don't need to be a dancer to love Nia. It truly is for everybody. I love that I've taught classes with 13-year-olds and 70-year-olds all moving together!
What tip can you give someone who is considering trying Nia for the first time?
Leave your internal critic at the door. Step out of your head and into the music, into your body and into the moment!
