Nia Testimonial: Elaine Wolf, Nia Teacher
MA, MSW, LMFT, Nia Blue Belt
I am the seventh of eight children and grew up in the country. I have always been visual person and a natural athlete. My parents were strict catholics yet loved people from all backgrounds, orientations, etc. After leaving home, I dove into college. I love to learn and have enjoyed three masters degress and almost a fourth. I found Nia in 2003, after the stillbirth of my daughter, and haven't looked back. I proceeded from my white belt to green to blue.
Why do you practice and/or teach Nia?
Because Nia helped me love my body, listen to my body and be in my body. Nia helps balance my emotions and helps me express all of me, all of my complexity. Nia also calms my mind and lifts my spirit. Most importantly, Nia has literally restructured traumatic brain memories from my childhood and the stillbirth.
Where and with whom do you take Nia classes and/or trainings?
I take Nia classes with Pam LeBlanc in Syracuse, New York. I also teach for her often.
What is one thing most people don't know about Nia?
Nia is not just a hobby; it is a way of living and being.
What tip can you give someone who is considering trying Nia for the first time?
Be gentle with yourself and pay attention to sensation. Your body has so much to say.
Why Nia and not yoga, Zumba, etc?
Because Nia offers everything: integration, fitness, healing, alignment, joy and expression.
