Nia Testimonial: Blanca Gerow, Nia Teacher
I was born in Tijuana, Mexico. I am a proud mom of a beautiful girl. I have spent four years living in Milwaukee, WI. I practice as a student and now I am a Nia teacher. It was hard to get money to take the White Belt Training, but with effort and a little luck, I got it last summer. With the help of a good friend, Bonnie Frenkel, and Nia CEO Jeff Stewart, I reached my goal of becoming a Nia teacher, and I am proud of myself because I know I can help a lot of people by introducing them to Nia. I love the Nia community in Milwaukee because it is full of great people who are full of joy and happiness!
Why do you practice and/or teach Nia?
I have never experienced an exercise that makes me feel comfortable in my body and mind. Nia not only feeds my body also feeds my spirit. It makes me feel good about my body and it makes me feel happy. My body wants and needs Nia; it is food for my mind and body. I definitely recommend Nia 100%. Nia is the dessert that my body loves!
Where and with whom do you take Nia classes and/or trainings?
I started Nia at Core El Centro four years ago with Barb Wesson in Milwaukee, WI. Barb was my inspiration to continue on the path of Nia. From that point on, after my first class, I knew Nia was what my body really liked and enjoyed. I was in karate since I was a little girl, but never enjoyed it as much as I enjoy Nia.
What is one thing most people don't know about Nia?
It is the first exercise that combines martial arts, healing arts, jazz and modern dance in an excellent combination of play and pleasure for your body, mind and spirit. And the best thing is that we do it barefoot!
What tip can you give someone who is considering trying Nia for the first time?
"Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance." ~Dave Barry
Why is Nia like dessert for your body?
Nia is sweet. Nia is harmony. Nia is love. Nia is pleasure. Nia is a privilege for my body.
