Tamara Koopman-Queens

Nia First Degree Black Belt Teacher
Boise, Idaho, United States

During my first and life changing Nia™ class in 2008 from Carlos AyaRosas, the co-creator of Nia, I realized how much I had been missing out on the freedom, creativity and healing abilities of movement.

Through the movement of Nia I felt like a little kid again; free, enjoying the moment and most importantly I felt everything was possible. It was MAGIC!

I then decided to never lose that feeling again.

While living in the US I went through the Nia White, Green and Blue Belt Intensive trainings; I worked at the Nia International Headquarters as a personal assistant of the founders of the Nia Technique: Debbie Rosas and Carlos AyaRosas; I studied Holistic Health; and I taught Nia classes until being 8 months pregnant of my first child.

With our newborn my husband and I moved to France in 2010 where I taught Nia classes and movement workshops in the heart of Grenoble and in Meylan until my second child was born.

Thanks to the food loving culture of France I also upgraded my life-time passion for food in relation to health. This resulted in extra book shelves for an abundance in health-, food- and (un)cookbooks, a Dutch food blog, and in becoming a Certified Raw Food Teacher via Karen Knowler’s Raw Food Teacher Training Intensive.

In January 2014, being pregnant of my third baby, we moved back to my home country The Netherlands, where I build a beautiful supportive Nia community starting with one class a week to 4 / 5 Nia classes a week, expanded with Movement and Food workshops, beautiful collaborations with local artists and celebrities like raw foodist Mimi Kirk and Nia celebrity Siere Munro, for whom I hosted a Moving To Heal training in Liempde in 2016 where 25 people from Holland, Belgium and Germany came and moved together, and an annual much anticipated Nourishing Nia Night in my backyard with nourishing food, nourishing workshops and a beautiful Nia dance session under the stars with a nourishing community. I also was very lucky to being able to go back to Portland twice for Continuing Nia education resulting in the Nia Brown Belt and Nia Black Belt.

In the summer of 2017 we moved to Boise, where we are living as expats again, like in Portland and France, for another 2 years, now with 3 young children. I taught Nia classes at Dancing Dragons, a beautiful studio from Nia Trainer and friend Britta von Tagen, and I teach at the YMCA in downtown Boise. I fell in love with this community too. And once more; after not teaching for a few months because of the emigration, I realized how much I love to teach Nia, that I love dancing, expressing and connecting with others, and helping others to be the best version of themselves.

Next to Nia I love to explore other healing modalities and I am currently doing a Qigong Teacher Training with Ling Gui International Qigong School in Portland. I love to explore the body’s way and trying to follow my spirit’s way.

Besides being a Dance Freak, a Health Nut and a proud mom of 3 lovely young children, I am a Master of Arts in Communication and Information Sciences (Tilburg University, The Netherlands) and loaded with Energy, Enthusiasm and Everlasting love for creating MAGIC in life through Movement, Food, and much more.

I hope I get the chance to meet you, to connect with you and to create MAGIC together!

Love, Tamara
