Inventing The Rest of Our Lives
By: Debbie Rosas | December 21, 2009
"When it's over, I want to say I have been a bride married to amazement, I've been a bridegroom taking the world into my arms." — Mary Oliver
I was recently given a book from Nia Blue Belt Joanne Edgar of New York: Inventing The Rest of Our Lives, by Suzanne Braun Levine. I placed this book on top of my ongoing pile of books to get to. I never know when I’ll go to this pile, but I do know that when I do, it has been prompted by something drastically transformational occurring in my life that wants attention. Somehow just knowing the pile of the books is there gives me comfort in going about my life and being present to the need to abruptly change my course and path. Such was the day I learned Carlos was retiring.
That night, what jumped in and out at me from the pile of books was this book, Inventing The Rest Of Our Lives. I crawled into bed, under the covers, feeling quite shaken, sad, and afraid. I’m still reading this book, finding great comfort in knowing that in it lies the wisdom to help me define my personal mythology as mother, wife, daughter, healer, and leader of Nia. I could be filled with terror and doubt and let myself fall apart, but instead I am filled with excitement and a deep inner peace knowing my family, my husband, and you, the Nia community, are here with me. I know I am not alone.
Nia has taught me to take action rather than to go to a place of no concern. Therefore, I am not concerned about what I will do with the rest of my life; I am focusing on what I will do NOW to make choices for personal power and step into my true greatness. I know stepping into my greatness is the way for me to be a great leader, mother, daughter, wife, friend, and healer to the world. It is a way for me to become a Sacred Athlete, one who honors the wisdom and potential of the body, who makes Creating a Sacred Livelihood the way to be in life and in business. One who lives his or her life in healthy and meaningful ways, modeling for all others what it means to follow a path of purpose, living into one’s own greatness.
As we end this year, I invite you to give thanks for what “was” and focus with an open heart and mind on the future of YOU living into your greatness, of following your purpose and Creating Your Sacred Livelihood. May you and I dance together through 2010 and make this transition by tracing our choices and decisions with the light of love. May we say goodbye to Carlos with grace, celebrating with him as he steps into Creating His Sacred Livelihood.
To you: Thank you for your commitment to this work, for being big, loving, adventurous, caring, committed, compassionate, real, authentic, and most of all: part of Nia and part of my life. I am committed to being more transparent and engaged in an interactive relationship with you, the community, as we invent the rest of our lives and the life of Nia. Remember: At the heart of success is YOU – and having a sacred relationship with Your Body, Your Self, and your business is critical to the sustainability of all of these things, integrated and balanced into your life of Pleasure and Joy.
In Deep Appreciation and Gratitude.
