The Power of Laughter

Want an easy and natural way to feel better? Try this!

Lay down with your back flat on the ground, nose pointing up to the sky. Place both palms on your belly button and take a deep breath into your stomach, then breathe out. Feel the power of the muscles in your abdomen as they expand and contract. Now laugh. Begin by forcing the sound with your hands placed on your belly, feeling the sound vibrate in your stomach. Soon the flow of laughter will come naturally. Let the energy of your joy release, and experience the moment.

Incorporate laughter in your meditation.

A recent study on humor at Loma Linda University, found that laughter and humor exercise the mind by activating the entire brain. One of the results from the study showed that participants who engaged in “joyful laughter produce substantial brain gamma wave band frequencies (30 to 40 Hz), which, according to other published research, are now known to be similar to those experienced by people who meditate and reach a state of contentment and happiness.”

Remember the old saying, “Laughter is the best medicine”? Turns out it’s very true! Meditation and relaxation are both proven to be beneficial for mental and physical well-being, but the silence of meditation is not the only path to better brain health. Allow yourself to laugh and become invigorated by the joy and health laughter brings.
