Nia White Belt Training
November 7, 2014 Shine ~ a wellness studio in Louisville , KY, US
About the Nia White Belt
The Nia White Belt Training is the first level of a five-belt training series that presents a body-centered approach to health, wellness and fitness. If you have a desire to share Nia in a professional capacity, the White Belt Training is your entryway into teaching. Those who choose to pursue the path of personal enrichment use this training as a starting point for becoming a master student.
Over the course of one week, you will comprehensively explore physical sensation through five core-competency areas of study including movement, music, anatomy, science and philosophy. This joyful journey into the self is instrumental in helping you develop body knowing by learning to listen, interpret and consciously respond to the information your body communicates to you via sensation. Enroll in an upcoming training today, and positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live.
Upon graduation, you are eligible to become a livelihood member. As a livelihood member, you obtain a teaching license (whether you decide to use it or not) and have exclusive access to an in-depth continuing education program, an online forum, and special benefits and privileges. You may enroll in the Green Belt Training - which is dedicated to the craft of teaching - at any time after completing your White Belt Training. You may also enroll in the next level of training, Blue Belt Training.
Meet the Trainer
Spend time around Helen and you will learn something, receive inspiration, and garner support for your dreams and desires (not to mention be highly entertained by her loving sense of humor and English-Texan accent, which many mistake for Australian.)
"I'm passionate about moving people physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I bring people together and inspire them, at my Studio, the Ranch and around the world. That turns me on."
Helen has been helping people love their bodies and lives through Nia Technique since 1993. She immigrated to the US in 1990, as an International Teaching Fellow. Helen has a Royal Society of Arts Certification in Exercise to Music, B. Ed. (Hons) Physical Education, M.Ed. Exercise Physiology. She is a Certified Body Ecologist and Dance Therapy Specialist.
Recognized by Origins Magazine as a "Top Inspirer in Texas", Helen is multi-talented with a magical formula. She combines experience and knowledge with determination and faith, to consciously create and bring ideas to life. Helen founded NiaMoves Houston in 1996, a successful fitness studio. She also owns Soma Ranch Retreat, Montgomery, Texas.
Helen has a special, and very effective, way of catering to the unique needs of each individual. She helps folks feel great while giving them the skills they need. When she's not leading Nia trainings worldwide, you'll find Helen at Soma Ranch feeding the rescued donkeys, (silently) cheering on her pre-Wimbledon daughter, Liliana; enjoying a kombucha tea on the porch with her awesome "home-support" husband, Joe; and being corralled by her Border Collie, Phelps.
"Helen Terry is one of the best teachers, mothers, and trainers, and because of her mastery in Nia and in her ability to build and create a successful personal and professional life she was one of the first two trainers chosen to step into the role of Blue Belt trainer!" Debbie Rosas
"I consider myself an inspirer as much as an educator. I was born to make an inspirational difference in people's lives through movement to music and how I live my life. When I teach Nia, I adore watching how folks light up! It's phenomenal how many people’s lives are being changed through this practice. I consider it a blessing to have found Nia and a privilege to teach and share this wonderful technique" Helen Terry

We remember Helen as an amazing "teacher to be" so many years ago. Bright, articulate, a big dreamer and full of life's desire. She was fit, and seemed to be one of those people who easily took risks out of passion, not fear. She was open to possibility, willing to receive and learn more, and eager to be in relationship with us, Nia, the group and her experience. (Studio NiaMoves Houston) represents these parts and more. It is her dream, passion, and represents her ability to manifest out of love and not fear. It represents her ability to create and work with community, and to ask for what she needs. As we look into the NOW and Nia's future it is bright and full of Helen.
Congratulations Helen on creating the dream. You inspire us all, and it is a pleasure and joy to know you, work with you and see you as the woman you are in life. More magic awaits we are sure. Thank you for being you and being in our life too.
Love Debbie, Carlos and Jeff

Shine is a wellness studio devoted to nurturing a graceful life through movement, music and fun. We are the heart of Nia Technique in Louisville offering daily classes. Our other adult classes are all movement classes that increase the student's connection to their health and well-being, including kundalini yoga, hoop dance and 5Rhythms. Shine also offers the Music Together program creating wellness in the lives of very young children and the grownups who love them by teaching them how to put music and movement in their daily lives.
Located in the NuLu neighborhood of Louisville KY, Shine is surrounded by art galleries, restaurants and non-traditional work environments. NuLu is home to many art galleries and boutiques of clothing and home goods and is the center of the growing food culture of Louisville, hosting many great restaurants, including leaders in the LocaVore food movement. Shine has also served as a gallery for local artists and artists from around the country, who focus on art as a pathway to healing.
Shine is owned by Maria Whitley, a leader in Louisville's holistic healing community, who has carefully cultivated a studio of non-judgment and joy. Maria is a Brown Belt Nia Instructor, a Certification Level 2 Teacher of Early Childhood Music and Movement and the practitioner of several healing arts, which she combines and offers in individual healing sessions she calls SoundBody Healing.
Shine's Nia community is eager to welcome out-of-town guests to the White Belt for very low- or no- cost. Please contact Maria if interested in staying in someone's home. firstname.lastname@example.org or 502.526.2983 mobile
