About the Nia White Belt
The Nia White Belt Training is the first level of a five-belt training series that presents a body-centered approach to health, wellness and fitness. If you have a desire to share Nia in a professional capacity, the White Belt Training is your entryway into teaching. Those who choose to pursue the path of personal enrichment use this training as a starting point for becoming a master student.
Over the course of one week, you will comprehensively explore physical sensation through five core-competency areas of study including movement, music, anatomy, science and philosophy. This joyful journey into the self is instrumental in helping you develop body knowing by learning to listen, interpret and consciously respond to the information your body communicates to you via sensation. Enroll in an upcoming training today, and positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live.
Upon graduation, you are eligible to become a livelihood member. As a livelihood member, you obtain a teaching license (whether you decide to use it or not) and have exclusive access to an in-depth continuing education program, an online forum, and special benefits and privileges. You may enroll in the Green Belt Training - which is dedicated to the craft of teaching - at any time after completing your White Belt Training. You may also enroll in the next level of training, Blue Belt Training.
Meet the Trainers
Vickie is a Black Belt Nia Teacher,Yoga teacher, NASM Certified Personal Trainer and MELT Method Hand and Foot Teacher whose purpose is to inspire through movement. With over 25 years of experience in the movement arts, Vickie brings somatic skill and playful self-discovery to every Nia class, training, and retreat she leads. She studied Human Sciences at Marylhurst University, and also yoga with SarahJoy Marsh, Julie Gumestead, Jennie Fox and Paul Gould. One of the first Nia teachers in Portland, OR, Vickie managed Nia's International Headquarters for 7 years, helping to spearhead an awareness of Nia in the Northwest.
A key leader in adapting Nia and yoga for teens, Vickie specializes in teaching high-schoolers through the West Linn/Wilsonville Wellness Program. In 2006, she developed the Holistic Wellness curriculum, where she also offers seminars on nutrition and the physiology of stress. Vickie's intent is to help teens connect to their body through movement - an act that supports them in making healthy personal choices inside and outside the classroom.
Students love her compassionate, grounded style of teaching blended with her effortless ability to make a personal connection with each individual. As Vickie says, "I believe that when we live in harmony with our true nature, we naturally increase our vitality." As a teacher, she aims to create an environment where students cultivate deep connections within themselves to find more aliveness, joy, and meaning.
When she's not teaching Nia classes, workshops and retreats, you'll find her upside-down in handstand, galavanting up Wind Mountain with her two awesome kids and golden retrievers, and splitting her literary indulgences between meditation books and some action-packed, pre-teen series.

Allison "Al" Wright is a Black Belt Nia Teacher, MELT Method Instructor, and specialist in adapting Nia For Kids. Like a true Leo, she brings a sense of deep heart and fiery spirit to every movement experience she facilitates. Al leads master classes, workshops, and ocean retreats around the globe that are designed to unite body, mind, emotions, and spirit through mindful movement.
Al holds a degree in Holistic Psychology from Lesley University and also studied jazz piano at Berklee College of Music. She has worked at Harvard's Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine, presented at Ohio State University's Talbot Hall Addiction Medicine Clinic, and has traveled across North America and the Middle East sharing the joy of movement.
Known for her passion for music, Al loves to teach people how to hear music with their whole body. Her classes blend conscious movement with athleticism, personalization, sound healing, self-expression, and playful creativity that will leave you sweaty and inspired–all the while inviting you to fall in love with sensation.
Al is the co-creator of the 2012 Nia Routine, Touch, which she choreographed and filmed with Vickie Saito for the Nia Technique.
When she's not teaching classes and workshops, you'll find Allison trekking through the Columbia River Gorge, writing in coffee shops, or at home, recycling and transforming coffee sleeves into magnificent artistic creatures for her online art-education business, Accidental Art Project.
