The Nia White Belt Training is the first level of a five-belt training series that presents a body-centered approach to health, wellness and fitness. If you have a desire to share Nia in a professional capacity, the White Belt Training is your entryway into teaching. Those who choose to pursue the path of personal enrichment use this training as a starting point for becoming a master student.

Over the course of one week, you will comprehensively explore physical sensation through five core-competency areas of study including movement, music, anatomy, science and philosophy. This joyful journey into the self is instrumental in helping you develop body knowing by learning to listen, interpret and consciously respond to the information your body communicates to you via sensation. Enroll in an upcoming training today, and positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live.

Upon graduation, you are eligible to become a livelihood member. As a livelihood member, you obtain a teaching license (whether you decide to use it or not) and have exclusive access to an in-depth continuing education program, an online forum, and special benefits and privileges. You may enroll in the Green Belt Training - which is dedicated to the craft of teaching - at any time after completing your White Belt Training. You may also enroll in the next level of training, Blue Belt Training.

Sophie Marsh is an inspiring educator, community builder and wellness coach. She was the first Australian Nia Black Belt and is Australia’s only Nia White Belt Trainer. Sophie holds a welcoming and supportive space for people to creatively explore and express their potential through the Joy of movement. Her passionate energy is contagious, inspiring people to nurture, trust and understand their innate body wisdom as a path to self-love. She shares Nia as both a life-enrichin

She shares Nia as both a life-enriching practice and as movement medicine for healing and enlivening the body, mind, spirit and heart.

In her own journey, practicing Nia for 16 years has been both therapeutic and transformative, delivering weight loss and optimal fitness, postural alignment and core strength, confidence and centredness and a reconnection to the pleasure and power of being a woman. Sophie integrates over 20 years studying and sharing self-mastery techniques, holistic movement, energy healing and sensuous embodiment. She connects people of all ages, backgrounds and fitness levels in classes, playshops, retreats and White Belt trainings around Australia and beyond.

Sophie also offers one-on-one sessions, weekly mentoring calls, and community-based classes to diverse populations including Women's WellBeing Association, Brisbane City Council GOLD program, Micah, Mental Health Association of Qld, Harmony Place, Diversicare, Joining Hands, Cathay Home & Aged care, Commonwealth Respite, A Place to Belong, Inala Job Seekers, TAFE (ESL) students, Griffith University (Midwifery) students, ARAFMI (mental health carers), CanTeen Cancer support, and students at both State and Private High Schools.

Location
West End is a vibrant inner city suburb of Brisbane surrounded by the river and filled with ecclectic cafes, restaurants, parks and shops.  Rio Rhythmics is a welcoming latin dance studio in the heart of West End, walking distance from South Brisbane station and local bus routes.

Schedule

We will begin on Friday with arrival at 3:30 for a 4:00 pm start. The other 6 days will begin by 7:30 am and finish between 6 and 7 pm, with a 90-min. lunch break to refuel and recharge. The training will conclude by 4:00 pm on the last Sunday afternoon though you may like to join us for a celebratory drink afterwards. The Intensive consists of ~60 hours of somatic education, incorporating a beautiful blend of movement and interactive teachings. A detailed schedule will be provided the first afternoon.

The training is non-residential. Please contact Ann Boon on 0437 392 424 if you have any questions about local accommodation. There are back-packers, B&Bs, motels, apartments and hotels close by. A home stay with a Brisbane Nia family may also be available.

Parking
West End has unrestricted parking on the streets on weekends.  On weekdays, metred parking is available nearby or there is free street parking a few blocks from the studio.  There are also ample all-day parking stations around the nearby southbank and the convention centre.

Can "I" Do This?
Yes, absolutely - you can do this! In Nia, we follow the Feel-Good Principle: "If it feels good, keep doing it. If it doesn't, tweak it until it feels good to you!" Nia is adaptable for all ages, fitness levels, and experience levels. In Nia, we highly encourage and celebrate uniqueness and personal empowerment. Go ahead - do it your way - and make the week the perfect intensity for you. No experience is necessary.
