About the Nia 5 Stages

The Nia 5 Stages is an integrative movement practice based on the five stages of human development: Embryonic, Creeping, Crawling, Standing and Walking. Practiced with awareness, these stages have the power to facilitate optimal alignment, improved function and comfort in the body. The Nia 5 Stages Training provides students and teachers alike with the tools to embody the practice. It also qualifies Nia teachers to facilitate a 60-minute Nia 5 Stages class and to integrate this body of work into Nia classes, private sessions and two-hour experiential workshops. The Nia 5 Stages Training program adds a whole new skillset to the Nia teacher’s realm of expertise. It includes three comprehensive modules: Pre-Training, Training and Post-Training.

Meet the Trainer

Laurie Bass

Nia Teacher Trainer
Laurie is a creative mover, athlete, artist, yogi and member of the Nia Training Faculty as a White Belt and Nia 5 Stages Trainer. Her education includes degrees in Mathematics and Psychology from Pacific University. Laurie lives near Portland, Oregon, home to the NiaStudio - international headquarters and training facility for the Nia Technique - where she teaches classes, workshops and trainings. She travels internationally to communities in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Europe. She pa

She passionately shares the pleasure, power, grace and sense of self-discovery that Nia offers people of all ages.

Laurie’s is involved with the profound self-healing practice and body education program called the Nia 5 Stages, created by Nia founder Debbie Rosas.  She has used this development practice to self-heal, strengthen and re-align her spine daily. Laurie has knowledge from the inside out - having supported and worked with Debbie in the development since its inception in 2007, creating its structure for resources, teacher-training and post-training programs.

Laurie is a ‘Joy Revolutionary’ who loves that Nia offers people of all ages a pathway to self-healing, fitness, body education and self-discovery.  Nia played a key role in the healing of chronic pain, tendonitis and fatigue accumulated through athletic injury (knee and shoulder surgery) and entrepreneurial stress. It taught her to listen to the voice of her body. She acquired skills as a life coach, trained as a yoga teacher, Nia teacher and now globe trotting Nia Trainer.  Her classes, workshops and trainings are filled with passion, fun, grace, creativity, skill, acceptance and powerful presence.
