About Nia

What is Nia?

Nia is a sensory-based movement practice that draws from martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Classes are taken barefoot to soul-stirring music in more than 45 countries. Trainings are designed for those seeking personal enrichment and professional development. Every experience can be adapted to individual needs and abilities. Step into your own joyful journey with Nia, and positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live.

How does Nia work?

Nia draws from Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, jazz dance, modern dance, Duncan dance, yoga, Alexander Technique and Teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais. Every class offers a unique combination of 52 moves that correspond with the main areas of the body: the base, the core and the upper extremities. Stiff beginners and highly fit athletes alike can adapt Nia to meet their needs by choosing from three intensity levels. Consecutive trainings collectively explore 52 principles for personal enrichment and professional development. Read testimonials from people of all ages, backgrounds and locations.

Why was Nia created?

Nia’s purpose is to grow a worldwide community of healthy people who are empowered to do great things. We believe every person can discover, explore, unleash and enhance their individual potential to live a fulfilling and meaningful life – by engaging their senses and listening to their bodies. With the right tools and education, we can increase our confidence and happiness. We can become connected to others to shape a consciousness that extends beyond our own. Together we will unearth possibilities never before imagined.

At Rasa Yoga Center our classes are separate from others offered here, payment is made to directly to me or to my assistant, not to the front desk. You can pay each time at the drop-in rate of $10 or buy a class card.

Your first five classes are free.  After that time, classes will cost between $5 and $10, depending on the payment option you choose. Please make your choice mindfully so you will be able to use all your paid classes within the time period you select. The table below presents options for a period up to three months.

If, after purchasing a card, you become aware that you can’t attend the classes within the allocated time period, I will be happy to discuss (1) an extension of the ending date with you or (2) giving your remaining classes to another person. Otherwise, unused classes are forfeited when cards expire.

Sincerely and with deep gratitude,

Location

280 E. Hersey, #10, Ashland, OR, US

Notes About This Event

The human body is a Jacob’s Ladder between Earth and heaven.  Inspired by the World Tree or axis mundi in all traditions, this Mythic Body workshop guides participants to apply scientific, somatic and spiritual inquiry to aspects of human anatomy, such as bones, blood, nervous system, in order to understand and experience them as fractals of the Earth and of the cosmos at large.  Participants use movement to experience the ecology of vertical and horizontal systems in the body designed to integrate heaven and Earth, embodying the alchemical dictum, “As above, so below” as a methodology for connecting to Allness.

The workshop is for people of all ages and physical conditions.  No previous science or movement background is needed.  Participants will learn cognitive and somatic tools for creating their own personal, practical, holistic, body-based cosmology.

CONTINUING ED CREDIT:  7.5 Contact Hours for Healthcare Providers - LMTs, PTs, DCs, OTs.  (Please inquire regarding other practitioners.)

Tree of Life Body is a whole-brain, functional approach to studying functional and applied anatomy, physiology, neurology and kinesiology of the functional interrelationships between the musculoskeletal system, nervous, circulatory and integumentary systems.

Through didactic, functional and applied anatomy, sensory awareness and functional movement sessions, healthcare practitioners will empirically explore innovative tools to apply to a wide range of chronic and acute orthopedic, neurologic and medical cases.  The curriculum draws on the work of John Uppledger, DO, Shirley Sahrmann, PT, Janet Hulme, PT, Frank Lowen, LMT, Christine Kent, RN, Paul Richards and others.

Price of workshop includes Nia class.
