The Nia White Belt Training is the first level of a five-belt training series that presents a body-centered approach to health, wellness and fitness. If you have a desire to share Nia in a professional capacity, the White Belt Training is your entryway into teaching. Those who choose to pursue the path of personal enrichment use this training as a starting point for becoming a master student.

Over the course of one week, you will comprehensively explore physical sensation through five core-competency areas of study including movement, music, anatomy, science and philosophy. This joyful journey into the self is instrumental in helping you develop body knowing by learning to listen, interpret and consciously respond to the information your body communicates to you via sensation. Enroll in an upcoming training today, and positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live.

Upon graduation, you are eligible to become a member. As a member, you obtain a teaching license (whether you decide to use it or not) and have exclusive access to an in-depth continuing education program, an online forum, and special benefits and privileges. You may enroll in the Green Belt Training - which is dedicated to the craft of teaching - at any time after completing your White Belt Training. You may also enroll in the next level of training, Blue Belt Training.

Debbie Rosas has been a pioneer and leader in the body-mind fitness industry since 1976. She has dedicated life to self-healing and self-mastery. Her extensive exploration of dance, martial arts, graphic arts, music, therapy and healing inspired and developed into the creation of the internationally acclaimed body-mind fitness program and lifestyle company, Nia Technique, Inc. Debbie’s work also includes the writing and production of Nia® educational materials and lifestyle products, such as music CDs, DVDs and the NiaWear™ clothing line. Together with creative partner Carlos Rosas, Debbie has co-authored two books: Non-Impact Aerobics and The Nia Technique™, as well as the “Holistic Fitness” section of the AFAA Instructor Training Manual.

Nia brings concepts and forms from eastern and western practices into mainstream fitness classes and has been instrumental in the evolution of the fitness industry. As of August 2013, Nia Technique, Inc. is a thriving business supporting approximately 2,200 Licensed Nia Teachers across 40 countries.

Her education includes degrees in Mathematics and Psychology from Pacific University. Laurie lives near Portland, Oregon, home to the NiaStudio - international headquarters and training facility for the Nia Technique - where she teaches classes, workshops and trainings. She travels internationally to communities in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Europe. She passionately shares the pleasure, power, grace and sense of self-discovery that Nia offers people of all ages.

Laurie is a ‘Joy Revolutionary’ who loves that Nia offers people of all ages a pathway to self-healing, fitness, body education and self-discovery.  Nia played a key role in the healing of chronic pain, tendonitis and fatigue accumulated through athletic injury (knee and shoulder surgery) and entrepreneurial stress. It taught her to listen to the voice of her body. She acquired skills as a life coach, trained as a yoga teacher, Nia teacher and now globe trotting Nia Trainer.  Her classes, workshops and trainings are filled with passion, fun, grace, creativity, skill, acceptance and powerful presence.

Nia classes are for every body. Students leave feeling re-energized, grounded, empowered and connected after class.  Nia Trainings are for every body - people leave with deeper sense of body knowledge and transformed. Isn’t it time you step in? I’d love to lead your joy revolution.

I have 25 years of Nia Technique experience and bring creativity, laughter, compassion and enthusiasm to my Nia work. My mission is to share the joy of Nia with everyBody and to help others reclaim their body's natural way of moving and live a life of pleasure. As a teacher of Nia, joy of movement and truly caring for people are my motivations and I believe we are as young as our spirit allows us to be. It is through an open mind and a true connection to joy that we can free, strengthen and heal our body, mind and spirit. Nia has awakened my inner child, and has made me feel timeless, ageless and weightless. I now stay fit by dancing, laughing, skipping and playing on the floor. I want everyBody to feel love, joy and pleasure in their body, and live into their potential!

I am a Sacred Warrior, a teacher and healer to all people. The most precious gift I have received from Nia is self-love, which has manifested into my life purpose to awaken the human healing potential.   I fulfill this purpose every time I step into a Nia class, workshop and training.

I teach in movement studios, fitness clubs, corporations, with breast cancer survivors, and I volunteer at Haven of Hope, a place of hope and new beginnings in San Antonio for those experiencing homelessness. I have been a guest Nia and Yoga instructor at Lake Austin Spa Resort for 15 years, and a guest staff movement instructor at Omega Institute.   I offer workshops, classes and presentations throughout the US and Mexico, and am experienced with working with individual, small or large special groups.

I am also a RYT® 200 Hour Yoga Teacher with a specialty in trauma-sensitive yoga techniques, trained in the YogaFit Warrior Program, a Melt Method Hand and Foot Instructor, Journey Dance Facilitator, Laughter Yoga Leader, Mindful Change Coach, doTerra Independent Product Consultant, and a Certified Project Management Professional.

I was first attracted to Nia by its diverse influences. I had studied modern, jazz, and creative dance in school, folk dance with my social group, and dabbled in yoga, judo, and Tai Chi. I was amazed and pleased that someone else had made an integrated program out of my haphazard lifetime curriculum. I attended a master class with Debbie Rosas and Carlos Rosas when they visited my town and I was smitten with a sense of authenticity. I knew I wanted to study with them. Within a year,

I was amazed and pleased that someone else had made an integrated program out of my haphazard lifetime curriculum. I attended a master class with Debbie Rosas and Carlos Rosas when they visited my town and I was smitten with a sense of authenticity. I knew I wanted to study with them.

Within a year, I registered for my first training. As I began preparing to attend the White Belt, I discovered that Nia provided a refuge of comfortable movement following 20+ years of knee and neck pain. Never an evangelist before, now I wanted everyone to know how much better their bodies could feel.

I continued my career as a gerontologist, offering recreation and exercise for older adults, never imagining that my Nia hobby would someday blend with my professional training. And now, I am certain that Nia has not only given me a fitness and lifestyle practice I can do for the rest of my life, but that many elements of Nia philosophy and implementation offer exactly what research is telling us is the path to healthy longevity. Nia provides myriad tools for resilience and sustainability for the body, the mind and the spirit. It addresses the many aspects of wellness, not only physical, but mental, emotional, social, environmental, spiritual, and vocational.

I love adding helpful applications of the White Belt curriculum to the latter third of life.
