The Nia White Belt Training is the first level of a five-belt training series that presents a body-centered approach to health, wellness and fitness. If you have a desire to share Nia in a professional capacity, the White Belt Training is your entryway into teaching. Those who choose to pursue the path of personal enrichment use this training as a starting point for becoming a master student.

Over the course of one week, you will comprehensively explore physical sensation through five core-competency areas of study including movement, music, anatomy, science and philosophy. This joyful journey into the self is instrumental in helping you develop body knowing by learning to listen, interpret and consciously respond to the information your body communicates to you via sensation. Enroll in an upcoming training today, and positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live.

Upon graduation, you are eligible to become a livelihood member. As a livelihood member, you obtain a teaching license (whether you decide to use it or not) and have exclusive access to an in-depth continuing education program, an online forum, and special benefits and privileges. You may enroll in the Green Belt Training - which is dedicated to the craft of teaching - at any time after completing your White Belt Training. You may also enroll in the next level of training, Blue Belt Training.

Soma Ranch I am here to make a difference in peoples lives through Nia Technique. I manifest this through Nia classes, trainings and reTreats at Soma Ranch, Montgomery,Texas and around the world. With my vast Nia and life experiences, as one of the lead Nia Trainers, I'm not here to impress you, I'm here to inspire. My ideal? to contribute to you personalizing your Nia journey, help dreams come true, encourage you to be the best you can be and live a glorious life. Want help with deciding where/how/when to take a Nia class or training? give me a call. 832-567-4550.

Spend time around Helen and you will learn something, receive inspiration, and garner support for your dreams and desires (not to mention be highly entertained by her loving sense of humor and English-Texan accent, which many mistake for Australian.) "I'm passionate about moving people physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I bring people together and inspire them, at my Studio, the Ranch and around the world. That turns me on."

Helen has been helping people love their bodies and lives through Nia Technique since 1993. She immigrated to the US in 1990, as an International Teaching Fellow. Helen has a Royal Society of Arts Certification in Exercise to Music, B. Ed. (Hons) Physical Education, M.Ed. Exercise Physiology. She is a Certified Body Ecologist and Dance Therapy Specialist.

Recognized by Origins Magazine as a "Top Inspirer in Texas", Helen is multi-talented with a magical formula. She combines experience and knowledge with determination and faith, to consciously create and bring ideas to life. Helen founded NiaMoves Houston in 1996, a successful Nia fitness studio in Houston, which she sold in 2016. Helen now co-owns and runs Soma Ranch Retreat, Montgomery, Texas with her husband Joe.

Helen has a special, and very effective, way of catering to the unique needs of each individual. She helps folks feel great while giving them the skills they need. When she's not leading Nia trainings worldwide, you'll find Helen at Soma Ranch feeding the rescued donkeys, checking in with her daughter, Liliana (who’s studying Computer Science/Linguistics at University of Texas) ; enjoying a kombucha tea on the porch with her awesome "home-support" husband, Joe; and being corralled by their Border Collie, Phelps.

"Helen Terry is one of the best teachers, mothers, and trainers, and because of her mastery in Nia and in her ability to build and create a successful personal and professional life she was one of the first two trainers chosen to step into the role of Blue Belt trainer!" Debbie Rosas

"I consider myself an inspirer as much as an educator. I was born to make an inspirational difference in people's lives through movement to music and how I live my life. When I teach Nia, I adore watching how folks light up! It's phenomenal how many people’s lives are being changed through this practice. I consider it a blessing to have found Nia and a privilege to teach and share this wonderful technique" Helen Terry

Helen,
We remember Helen as an amazing "teacher to be" so many years ago. Bright, articulate, a big dreamer and full of life's desire. She was fit, and seemed to be one of those people who easily took risks out of passion, not fear. She was open to possibility, willing to receive and learn more, and eager to be in relationship with us, Nia, the group and her experience. (Studio NiaMoves Houston) represents these parts and more. It is her dream, passion, and represents her ability to manifest out of love and not fear. It represents her ability to create and work with community, and to ask for what she needs. As we look into the NOW and Nia's future it is bright and full of Helen.
Congratulations Helen on creating the dream. You inspire us all, and it is a pleasure and joy to know you, work with you and see you as the woman you are in life. More magic awaits we are sure. Thank you for being you and being in our life too.
Love Debbie, Carlos and Jeff

Here's info from Mary Linn (training host) with regards accommodation.

The two closet hotels are:

1. Holiday Inn Express & Suites Charlottesville/Ruckersville 5920 Seminole Trail, Ruckersville, 434.985.1855

located about 15 minutes drive from training site (on my way to and from, so I am happy to give rides as space allows) outside of Charlottesville in a quiet area, small shopping center adjacent (walkable) with a couple restaurants (think pizza not vegan gourmet!), a 24 hour fitness center, and a Dunkin Donuts.

2. DoubleTree Charlottesville 990 Hilton Heights Road, Charlottesville, 434.973.2121

Also about 15 minutes drive from training site on outskirts of Cville - you COULD walk to quite a few restaurants/shops/etc. but much safer to drive; next to Sam's Club and Walmart

There's loads of other motels/hotels/bed and breakfasts/Airbnb rentals in all price ranges in the Charlottesville area, depending on personal preference for proximity to training site vs. proximity to nice restaurants/Whole Foods/or horse farms and country quiet. Happy to give recommendations based on what people want to be close to.

Unfortunately Cville has essentially no public transit system and the training site is a bit out of town, so people will be car dependent. I'd be happy to connect people for carpooling once we have a sense of where everyone's staying.
