About Awake

Set to the soundscape of Indian and world music, Awake is an invitation to sense, explore, and manifest the natural flow of energy moving through the body by connecting to the spine, spiraling energy, and space. The line of a spiral expands the sensation of energy flow. Exploring space cultivates a sense of community and playful interaction as you dance together as a group.

The focus of Awake is Spine – Spiral – Space. The intent is to connect your physical movement in space to the spiraling flow of energy up and down the spine.

About Nia

What is Nia?

Nia is a sensory-based movement practice that draws from martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Classes are taken barefoot to soul-stirring music in more than 45 countries. Trainings are designed for those seeking personal enrichment and professional development. Every experience can be adapted to individual needs and abilities. Step into your own joyful journey with Nia, and positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live.

How does Nia work?

Nia draws from Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, jazz dance, modern dance, Duncan dance, yoga, Alexander Technique and Teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais. Every class offers a unique combination of 52 moves that correspond with the main areas of the body: the base, the core and the upper extremities. Stiff beginners and highly fit athletes alike can adapt Nia to meet their needs by choosing from three intensity levels. Consecutive trainings collectively explore 52 principles for personal enrichment and professional development. Read testimonials from people of all ages, backgrounds and locations.

Why was Nia created?

Nia’s purpose is to grow a worldwide community of healthy people who are empowered to do great things. We believe every person can discover, explore, unleash and enhance their individual potential to live a fulfilling and meaningful life – by engaging their senses and listening to their bodies. With the right tools and education, we can increase our confidence and happiness. We can become connected to others to shape a consciousness that extends beyond our own. Together we will unearth possibilities never before imagined.

Nia 5 Stages of Self-Healing 5-Week Series - Receiving Healing from the Body

When: Sundays - January 12, 19, 26 and February 2 and 9, 2014

Time: 1:00pm - 2:00pm

Where: The Dance Space in Greenwood - 124 N 103rd Street, Seattle, WA 98133

Contact me with any questions about this series: jennifer@everybodyloveyourbody.com

The Nia 5 Stages is an integrative practice based on the five stages of human development: embryonic, creeping, crawling, standing and walking.

When the body moves through the Nia 5 Stages, the body, mind, emotions, and spirit naturally realign, unify and integrate, leaving a greater sense of wholeness, health and well-being. Developed as a practice, these stages lead to changes that improve one's physical comfort, ability to move efficiently, and improvement in whole body functioning and posture.

This 5-week series will introduce you to the Nia 5 Stages and emphasizes how this practice allows us to receive healing from the body.

Notes About This Class

Nia Practice with Faculty Trainer, Jill Pagano

This 6-week class is dedicated to practicing Nia's 52 moves using the routine SOUL. Each week we'll review a song from SOUL, learn the 52 moves in the song and practice them with and without the music.  You'll get hands-on instruction on crafting the move in your body, based on your body's way. Practicing Nia's 52 moves enhances your embodiment, conditions specific parts of the body (ie hand techniques condition the hands) and enhances your ability to see all Nia routines as a blend of Nia's 52 moves. By learning the 52 moves you'll be able to decode Nia choreography with more ease and move your body with more skill for a greater conditioning effect and less injury-risk.

This series is excellent for the new-to-Nia person!

If you are a Nia White Belt Graduate or Nia Teacher, we'll layer in Nia's Principles for a greater depth of study.

Nia teachers receive a 20% off discount from Drop in or class card rate.

No registration necessary.

Purchasing the Nia book is recommended. We have used copies for discounted pricing at the studio.

Notes About This Event

Join First Degree Black Belt Nia Teacher, Jason Alan Griffin, as he introduces his latest routine, "Frankie Say Nia".

Dye your hair blue. It's totally rad. Put on your neon leg warmers and zebra print headbands because this time we're Rocking the 80's, but we're going alternative. No Madonna, no Michael Jackson, no Prince. No Disco. This is all New Wave!

Let's jam to the B-52's, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Eurythmics, Talking Heads and the Go-Go's, and remember some great one-hit wonders like Come Eileen and Safety Dance.
