Notes About This Event

Moving To Heal is excited to host Nia Teacher and Trainer Helen Terry from Texas and the owner of Soma Ranch – Nia Retreat Center for a master Nia class. This is a great opportunity for students and teachers alike!

About Helen

Helen Terry is one of the best teachers, mothers, and trainers, and because of her mastery in Nia and in her ability to build and create a successful personal and professional life she was one of the first two trainers chosen to step into the role of Blue Belt trainer!” Debbie Rosas

“I consider myself an inspirer as much as an educator. I was born to make an inspirational difference in people’s lives through movement to music and how I live my life. When I teach Nia, I adore watching how folks light up! It’s phenomenal how many people’s lives are being changed through this practice. I consider it a blessing to have found Nia and a privilege to teach and share this wonderful technique” Helen Terry

All fitness levels, ages, body types and abilities are welcome!

Notes About This Event

Your relationship with your body is the longest one you'll have. Shouldn't you love it?

This is how our view of fitness and wellness should begin. Too often instead we look at it as something we must force ourselves to do or we feel badly for not doing enough, or at all.

Ready to flip that script and to craft a positive relationship with your body? Then you're ready to experience Nia.

Join us for a two-hour workshop from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, June 22, that's designed for absolute beginners or newish Nia-lovers who want to find out more about the practice.

Details:
$15  for first-time visitors to Move2Center Studio.
5-Class Pass holders and Unlimited Nia Pass holders may attend for free. Bring a friend!
All fitness levels, ages, body types and abilities are welcome!

What to expect: In the first hour we'll discuss  and move through the basic concepts and principles of Nia. Then, experience a beginner-level Nia class that puts it all together.

In Nia classes, we start from a place of pleasure and feeling good. We dance, we kick, we execute punches and blocks, and we laugh -- a lot.  In doing this, we become more connected to our flexibility, strength and mobility, increasing our level of agility and improving our sense of stability. With regular practice, you'll experience an increase in stamina and have more energy.

So, are you ready to love your fitness routine?

Notes About This Event

Exercise has many health benefits and providers are often recommending exercise to their patients. But how do we incorporate movement into our lives? For this special event, experience an opportunity for patients and providers to exercise and learn together.

The event includes Nia, an integrative joyful movement program, with Pauline Osborne, RN and yoga with Dr. Patti Shelton. After the class, Dr. David Musnick will present “Design Your Exercise Program” with community discussion.

Class is taught on Olympic Style judo mats. No shoes are allowed on the mats. Students who are have foot issues, usually find that it isn't necessary to wear shoes. The mats often provide the support they need while allowing the feet to be "free". =)

Invite your healthcare provider and your clients/patients to this free event. Let's connect and focus on health and wellness together. If you are a healthcare provider, bring your business cards to share at the event.

Location

Notes About This Event

The first "Naughty and Nice" event originated in 2009. It was an invitation to daring and joy, with a simple proposal: put way the exercise wear and strut our stuff in lingerie, nighties, evening wear, whatever made us feel sexy and beautiful.

"Now ladies, there is a time to play it safe-- taking Nia class in your gorgeous lingerie is NOT one of them!" then-Nia teacher (and Naughty and Nice originator) Jill Pagano wrote. "I know dancing in your sexy nighties and such is a little unnerving, a little 'out of the box' shall we say. That's why we are doing it and exactly the reason you'll never forget the feeling of doing it! Vavoom!"

She was right. That night, women flocked to a private, velvet-walled cocoon dressed in lingerie, gloves, boas, whatever made us feel beautiful. Together, we reveled in the gift of our beauty, supporting each other in a celebratory, body-affirming environment. It was paradigm shifting in a HUGE way, incredibly empowering and profoundly healing. That was nine years ago.

Now, we have our own comfortable, perfectly secluded space...and we're resurrecting "Naughty and Nice" again!

The new "Naughty and Nice" takes place Saturday, March 10 at 6 p.m. at Move2Center Studio. We're already cooking up some playlist ideas...a little Prince, some PJ Harvey, maybe even a musical cameo from RuPaul? It's going to be wild and fabulous, just like you!

Please note: This is an event for women only. Be sure to get there on time -- to keep things private, we'll be locking the doors by 6:15pm or 6:20pm.

Admission for this special event is $20.

Classic Nia with Moving to Heal

About Nia

What is Nia?

Nia is a sensory-based movement practice that draws from martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Classes are taken barefoot to soul-stirring music in more than 45 countries. Trainings are designed for those seeking personal enrichment and professional development. Every experience can be adapted to individual needs and abilities. Step into your own joyful journey with Nia, and positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live.

How does Nia work?

Nia draws from Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, jazz dance, modern dance, Duncan dance, yoga, Alexander Technique and Teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais. Every class offers a unique combination of 52 moves that correspond with the main areas of the body: the base, the core and the upper extremities. Stiff beginners and highly fit athletes alike can adapt Nia to meet their needs by choosing from three intensity levels. Consecutive trainings collectively explore 52 principles for personal enrichment and professional development. Read testimonials from people of all ages, backgrounds and locations.

Why was Nia created?

Nia’s purpose is to grow a worldwide community of healthy people who are empowered to do great things. We believe every person can discover, explore, unleash and enhance their individual potential to live a fulfilling and meaningful life – by engaging their senses and listening to their bodies. With the right tools and education, we can increase our confidence and happiness. We can become connected to others to shape a consciousness that extends beyond our own. Together we will unearth possibilities never before imagined.

Notes About This Class

You may not currently hold the attitude and belief that the human body can heal itself, but it can.  By self-healing, we mean doing something to feel better -- not necessarily resulting in a cure, although a cure can happen.  If you doubt you can self-heal you’re not alone.  No matter how many times you may have attempted, and feel you have failed at healing, this moment is different...

You're ready for a change.

A Moving to Heal class is set apart from other exercise programs by its purpose: turning movement into a therapeutic experience.  We use movement as medicine to support people in recovery, dealing with short-term injury or grief, or struggling with long-term trauma or illness.  Participants are taught to take charge and participate in their healing by increasing body awareness.  You will use sensation to track comfort and discomfort, and to choose pleasure to guide self-healing.  Where most classes stop at the door on the way out, Moving to Heal classes provide the tools to make movement, meditation, and positive perceptions part of everyday living, adding greater meaning and pleasure to your life.

This class is suitable for all levels, including those who wish to dance while seated, or require other special accomodations.  Contact Jeanna directly with any concerns or questions before your first class.
