Notes About This Event

Join us for an introductory session of Nia Dance!  Nia is a barefoot dance practice that combines elements of modern dance, martial arts and healing arts.  Set to soul-stirring music, and appropriate for all bodies and fitness levels, Nia dance routines are engaging, uplifting, and a lot of fun!  This 1.5-hour workshop includes a half-hour introduction to the Nia technique (history, basic principles and standard moves and stances) followed by an hour-long Nia dance class.

What is Nia?

How does Nia work?

Nia draws from Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, jazz dance, modern dance, Duncan dance, yoga, Alexander Technique and Teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais. Every class offers a unique combination of 52 moves that correspond with the main areas of the body: the base, the core and the upper extremities. Stiff beginners and highly fit athletes alike can adapt Nia to meet their needs by choosing from three intensity levels.
