It is a classic Nia class using the familiar 52 Moves, nine movement forms and seven Cycles. In this Nia class, Orchestra refers to the Symphony of Movement that you make with your individual body parts to create the whole. We might call it art, we might call it exercise, we might call it therapy. It's definitely fun and exciting!  No prior experience is necessary. All Marsh members and non-members are welcome. Jason Alan Griffin (JAG) travels with his dog River. River will be sleeping in his crate during class. River respectfully requests that we ignore him so he can stay calm.

Welcome the New Year with a Nia Playshop all about increasing your energy levels. In the winter months we especially need activity and an energetic boost for both body and mind. The Nia Technique utilizes the energy “personalities” of nine different movement forms. Nia’s unique fusion of the freedom of dance, the power of martial arts and the body awareness of the healing arts is what makes it such a joyful, sustainable and rich movement practice. Beth guides you through playful exercises discovering how the 9 movement forms can help your everyday energy levels. The playshop ends with a Nia class that incorporates all you've learned.

No prior experience is needed. Bring yourself, a water bottle and a sense of curiosity! We move in bare feet, if you need to wear shoes, please be sure they are not street shoes.

About Nia

What is Nia?

Nia is a sensory-based movement practice that draws from martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Classes are taken barefoot to soul-stirring music in more than 45 countries. Trainings are designed for those seeking personal enrichment and professional development. Every experience can be adapted to individual needs and abilities. Step into your own joyful journey with Nia, and positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live.

How does Nia work?

Nia draws from Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, jazz dance, modern dance, Duncan dance, yoga, Alexander Technique and Teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais. Every class offers a unique combination of 52 moves that correspond with the main areas of the body: the base, the core and the upper extremities. Stiff beginners and highly fit athletes alike can adapt Nia to meet their needs by choosing from three intensity levels. Consecutive trainings collectively explore 52 principles for personal enrichment and professional development. Read testimonials from people of all ages, backgrounds and locations.

Why was Nia created?

Nia’s purpose is to grow a worldwide community of healthy people who are empowered to do great things. We believe every person can discover, explore, unleash and enhance their individual potential to live a fulfilling and meaningful life – by engaging their senses and listening to their bodies. With the right tools and education, we can increase our confidence and happiness. We can become connected to others to shape a consciousness that extends beyond our own. Together we will unearth possibilities never before imagined.

End: Monday, September 12, 2016 at 8:15pm

Location

Notes About This Event

Orchestra is a stirring and dynamic Nia class set to the sounds of Tchaikovsky, Rossini, Ravel, Bach and Beethoven.
