Nia is a mind body practice that conditions the body and connects people in movement, positive interaction, music and sound. Nia encourages inner listening to the body, saying “yes” to positive sensation and saying no to pain. “Nia movement creates health in the entire body using the stimulation of music, vocal sounding, emotional expression, and dynamic movement variety.” It is a positive and safe movement experience for people of all ages.

Bring water and wear clothing suitable for movment.

Classes start Tuesday December 3rd.  There will be 2 classes 4:45 - 5:45 and 6:15 - 7:15 p.m. for a while to figure out which class builds clientele.

Nia is a multi-dimensional practice of The Body’s Way intended to enhance conditioning of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual realms of our bodies and to encourage individual and community expressivity through body awareness. What is Nia?

Nia is a sensory-based movement practice that draws from martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Classes are taken barefoot to soul-stirring music in more than 45 countries. Trainings are designed for those seeking personal enrichment and professional development. Every experience can be adapted to individual needs and abilities. Step into your own joyful journey with Nia, and positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live.

How does Nia work?

Nia draws from Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, jazz dance, modern dance, Duncan dance, yoga, Alexander Technique and Teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais. Every class offers a unique combination of 52 moves that correspond with the main areas of the body: the base, the core and the upper extremities. Stiff beginners and highly fit athletes alike can adapt Nia to meet their needs by choosing from three intensity levels. Notes About This Class

Integrating Pilates is a class based on the fundamentals inherent of the work of Joseph H. Pilates, the Ron Fletcher Work™, and Nia. Activating the shoulder and pelvic girdles with spine movement, strength and flexibility are blended into core stabilization and mobility. Whole body health, whole body commitment and Breath develop balance in standing and centering; body and mind are integrated into isolated, controlled and expressive movement through awareness and mindfulness.
