About the Nia White Belt
The Nia White Belt Training is the first level of a five-belt training series that presents a body-centered approach to health, wellness and fitness. If you have a desire to share Nia in a professional capacity, the White Belt Training is your entryway into teaching. Those who choose to pursue the path of personal enrichment use this training as a starting point for becoming a master student.
Over the course of one week, you will comprehensively explore physical sensation through five core-competency areas of study including movement, music, anatomy, science and philosophy. This joyful journey into the self is instrumental in helping you develop body knowing by learning to listen, interpret and consciously respond to the information your body communicates to you via sensation. Enroll in an upcoming training today, and positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live.
Upon graduation, you are eligible to become a livelihood member. As a livelihood member, you obtain a teaching license (whether you decide to use it or not) and have exclusive access to an in-depth continuing education program, an online forum, and special benefits and privileges. You may enroll in the Green Belt Training - which is dedicated to the craft of teaching - at any time after completing your White Belt Training. You may also enroll in the next level of training, Blue Belt Training.
Meet the Trainers
My name is Dorit, I'm delighted to meet you here. I stumbled on Nia 11 years ago and my life and body changed forever. I had no intention of teaching Nia, just being a happy student. When I got back to London and discovered there were no classes, sheer desperation led me to take the training six months later and now here I am.
I am the UK's resident Nia Technique White Belt Trainer and much to my delight and shock, In February 2014 I was awarded Nia Trainer of the Year by the Nia Training Faculty.
Nia is the ultimate personal development journey through the body. It is a brilliant way for coaches, trainers and faclitators to widen and deepen their experience as coaches and as people living in their bodies. It traines a physical connection to Joy which will transform your life as it did mine and so many other Nia teachers and students. It's packaged as an expressive fitness programme that will guide you into Loving your Body and loving your Life. It is empowering, graceful, playful and tender. Somatic Education will positively shape how you work, feel, look and live.
Nia is a Mind Body Soul dance that is a pathway to self knowing through the wisdom and intelligence of your body.
I was invited to become a trainer after bringing Nia to London and building the Nia London community of teachers. Over the past seven years over 70of my own students have gone on to become teachers.
Before finding the Nia Technique I worked as an Opera Singer for my local house CAPAB in Cape Town as well as small Opera companies such as British Youth Opera in the UK.
I believe that this work transforms every life it touches, I would love it to touch yours.
Laurie is a creative mover, athlete, artist, yogi and member of the Nia Training Faculty as a White Belt and Nia 5 Stages Trainer. Her education includes degrees in Mathematics and Psychology from Pacific University. Laurie lives near Portland, Oregon, home to the international headquarters for the Nia Technique where she teaches classes, workshops and holds trainings both locally at StudioNia/Portland and Step In Studio/Forest Grove as well as internationally, traveling to Australia, New Zealand and Europe. She passionately shares the pleasure, power, and sense of self-discovery that Nia offers people of all ages.
Laurie’s specialty is the profound self-healing, integrative and somatic education program called the Nia 5 Stages, created by Nia founder Debbie Rosas. She has used this development practice to self-heal, strengthen and re-align her spine daily. Laurie has knowledge from the inside out - having supported and worked with Debbie in the development - of the Nia 5 Stages since its inception in 2007, creating its structure for resources, teacher-training and post-training program.
She loves that Nia offers people of all ages a pathway to self-healing, fitness, body education and self-discovery. Nia played a key role in the healing of chronic pain, tendonitis and fatigue accumulated through athletic injury (knee and shoulder surgery) and entrepreneurial stress. Nia taught Laurie to listen to the voice of her body, to slow down, to adapt, accept and heal moment to moment. She acquired skills as a life coach, trained as a yoga teacher, Nia teacher and now Nia Trainer. Her classes, workshops and trainings are filled with passion, fun, grace, creativity, skill, acceptance and dynamic presence. Students leave feeling re-energized, grounded, empowered and connected after class.
Laurie thoroughly enjoys traveling, photography, film, and connecting with Nia communities worldwide.
Notes About this Training
Start: Friday, August 17, 2012 - 3:00 pm
End: Monday, August 27, 2012 - 5:00 pm
This Training will be running over two weekends. We start on Friday evening 17th August 2012 -Sunday 19th August, the second part of the training will start on Friday 24th August at 8am and we finish on Bank Holiday Monday 27 at 5pm. This is a training with Dorit Noble and Laurie Bass.
