About the Nia White Belt
The Nia White Belt Training is the first level of a five-belt training series that presents a body-centered approach to health, wellness and fitness. If you have a desire to share Nia in a professional capacity, the White Belt Training is your entryway into teaching. Those who choose to pursue the path of personal enrichment use this training as a starting point for becoming a master student.
Over the course of one week, you will comprehensively explore physical sensation through five core-competency areas of study including movement, music, anatomy, science and philosophy. This joyful journey into the self is instrumental in helping you develop body knowing by learning to listen, interpret and consciously respond to the information your body communicates to you via sensation. Enroll in an upcoming training today, and positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live.
Upon graduation, you are eligible to become a livelihood member. As a livelihood member, you obtain a teaching license (whether you decide to use it or not) and have exclusive access to an in-depth continuing education program, an online forum, and special benefits and privileges. You may enroll in the Green Belt Training - which is dedicated to the craft of teaching - at any time after completing your White Belt Training. You may also enroll in the next level of training, Blue Belt Training.
Meet the Trainers
Shannon first experienced Nia on the 2003 Shape Your Life Retreat with Shape Magazine at Red Mountain Spa in St. George Utah. Recognizing the power of the unique movement, she returned to Dallas and immediately began taking Nia classes. Shannon completed her White Belt in February 2004, her Blue Belt in June 2005, her Brown Belt in July 2006, and her Black Belt in July 2008. Dedicated to developing her Nia practice to share the power of awareness, pleasure, and sensation with others, Shannon has also completed For All Belts (2004) training, EMT training (2007), and the 5 Stages of Self-Healing Certification (2008) with Debbie and Carlos, the co-creators and founders of The Nia Technique. She completed the Green Belt training in February 2009 with Carlos Rosas. In October 2011, Shannon became a member of the Nia Faculty of Trainers as a Nia White Belt Intensive Trainer, and was on the faculty until 2016 when she left to focus on Compassion FitnessTM, her own business and creation. She completed the Nia 52 Moves training in July 2012 with Nia co-founder Debbie Rosas and most recently completed her 1st Degree Black Belt with Debbie Rosas in February 2014. Currently, Shannon teaches six weekly classes in Dallas, Collin and Denton Counties in Texas. For Shannon, her Nia training changed her path and her life, empowering her to shed 45 pounds and to step into the role of Nia teacher! In addition, she holds Bachelor of Business in Entrepreneurship and a Masters of Science in Natural Health and always encourages her students to put their SELF first and to create a healthy, joyful lifestyle by integrating nutrition and mindful movement into their daily lives. She loves the community Nia creates and feels blessed every day that she lives and teaches what she loves!
Charlotte is a Black Belt Nia Instructor & Retired Trainer. She has been teaching group fitness classes for 30 years. Also certified as a Group Exercise Leader (GEL) through the Cooper Clinic in Dallas, she began her Nia journey in a class led by Joanie Brooks in 1997 at the Concord Athletic Club in San Antonio. She became a White Belt Nia Instructor in February of 1998, with Trainer Holly Curtis and is an AFAA Certified Group Exercise Instructor.
In November 2010 Charlotte opened The DragonFly Studio, a small studio behind her home. With heart-felt Joy, she is teaching One-on-One Nia Sessions, Nia 5 Stages of Healing and Classic Nia at her studio. In addition she teaches at Two Hearts Yoga, subs Nia classes at the JCC and leads private classes at Diva, a non-profit for breast cancer survivors.
In September of 2011, after one year of extensive study and passing her Practicum, Charlotte became a Nia Trainer. She remained on Faculty through July 2015.
Charlotte believes that we become whole, one conscious moment at a time. As a fitness professional, she has increased her flexibility, strength, creative expression and body awareness through her Nia practice. She joyfully brings this awareness to each of her classes and client sessions. Her hope is that each of her students will learn to deeply love their body, wholey.

This training is a split weekend training and will take place over two consecutive weekends. It will be co-facilitated by Shannon Mairs and Charlotte Kerr Jorgensen!
