Karen contributes 18 years of teaching experience to her practice, having operated her own fitness business and lead groups in personal growth through outdoor challenge at the Canadian Outward Bound Mountain School prior to discovering Nia. She also brings a lifelong love of music and dance, including 10 years of dance studies from age 6 to 16. She is fully present on the journey with her students dancing towards optimal health and fitness with passion, joy, comfort and ease. Karen is dedicated to her continuing education and added the Nia Black Belt to her credentials in December 2010. In 2009, Karen produced the first Nia White Belt in Victoria. To date, she has hosted 3 one week WB Intensives with trainer, Martha Randall. In 2008 she became one of the first in the world to be certified by Debbie Rosas to teach Nia's 5 Stages.
From time to time, Karen invites you to attend one day Retreats that pamper your whole being with a playful workshop, a gentle moving meditation, a unique Nia class and more. A highlight of Retreat days is the beautiful environment and the lovely lunch shared together.
In 2007-2008 Karen acted as Nia Ambassador for lululemon athletica. She continued the relationship with in-store demonstrations and after-hours community classes.
In 2009, Karen held her first Nia Classes by Donation, raising $501.80 for the Woodwynn Farms Project (creating solutions for the homeless) together with her students. In the past, Karen and her students have raised funds for Women in Transition.
As of September 2014, Karen is on sabbatical from teaching while she sells her home and moves closer into town.
