I took my first Nia class in 2010. At the time, I was struggling with depression, anxiety, and an eating disorder. Depression left me feeling stuck and unmotivated to move. Anxiety and the eating disorder made me feel compelled to move constantly. I was desperate to find some kind of middle ground and I found it in Nia.
I loved Nia immediately. It was so different from any way I had exercised in the past. Up till that point in my life, I had exercised as a way to punish my body. I had never thought to move just to experience the joy of movement.
Nia completely changed my view of exercise, movement, my body, and health. It brought me a new circle of supportive friends. I love Nia so much that I took the White Belt training in September 2012 so that I could teach. It is with great joy that I share this practice with people.
