I found Nia during one of the biggest turning points of my life.
I was working as an HR Executive for a Fortune 100 Corporation and I had my whole life planned out. I was going to retire as a Sr. Level Leader, marry my current partner and live happily ever after. Then my life, as I planned it, fell apart.
In one day, I was laid off from my job, lost my job title, lost my relationship and lost what I thought was my identity. I was looking for help, and found a "Nia Feature Class" listed on the group fitness schedule at my gym. Looking for some relief, from my life, I attended the class.
At first, I didn't really know what I thought of Nia because I had never moved my body with such ease before, yet it was a total body workout. After each class, I was feeling exhilarated and renewed, so I kept coming back for more. The inspiring music, the encouraging teacher and students felt like a "welcome home" to me. It was the community I was so desperately craving.
THEN something really exciting happened, I earned a scholarship to attend a Nia retreat in Mexico. During the retreat I met a young woman who was bed-ridden due chronic fatigue, pain and depression. As she danced Nia, day-after-day, I observed her changing and during the retreat she told me, "dancing Nia is healing me and I am ready to return home."
With her words, "dancing Nia is healing me," I knew instantly I needed to bring Nia to more people. I had already earned a Master’s Degree, and a Coaching Certification, yet with Nia I realized the importance of getting out of the head and into the body, of instead of constant "talking it out" what would happen if we "moved it out?'
Shortly thereafter, I earned my Nia White Belt Certification and whoa my life changed completely. If you've ever heard the quote “good things fall apart, so that better things can fall together,” that was me and I became so grateful that the life I had planned fell apart, so that I could find the life that was waiting for me.
After earning my White Belt, I founded AbunDANCE Wellness Coaching where I help women, with NO TIME, find time to invest in themselves through movement, nutrition and mindful well-being. I live, work and teach Nia classes in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
I would be delighted to dance with you!
