Nia Black Belt Teacher
Boucan Canot, Reunion

For Veronique Courbis, her passion for dance stems from an "inner need." It is through the different languages and movements of dance that she relates to the world. To her, dance is a deeply personal form of expression.

As a health professional specialized in victimology, she discovered the therapeutic effects of dance movement with her patients, and pursued a degree in Art Therapy. She continued to train in Dance Therapy, and has worked with many professionals in France, including Shott Billman, Laura Sheleen, Enzo Bellia, and Benoit Lessage.

Continually searching for new ways to learn about the self through movement, Veronique was immediately drawn to Nia, as it echoed everything she knew about Dance Therapy. She became a Certified Professor in Nia Techniques in 2009, and then trained in Paris, (France) with France Laude Gohard, in Hamburg, (Germany), in Johannesburg, (South Africa) with Ann Christiansen, and in Portland, (USA) with Debbie Rosas, co-founder of Nia. She obtained her Black Belt in September 2013.

After introducing Nia to the psychotherapeutic community, she decided to implement the technique even further in Reunion Island. Dans'enKor Studio opened it's doors in St. Gilles les Bains in December 2011, and Veronique became the first Nia Professor on the island.

At each stage of her life, her dance-exploring soul was guided to discoveries that revealed new physical, mental, and sensory levels. For Veronique, Nia is the culmination of a personal journey that welcomes the art of dance in all of its beautiful dimensions.
