My first encounter with Nia was with Kathy, when she came to Durban in March 2009 to give a one day workshop, which changed my life! Having been a gymnast and professional dancer/performer, since the age of 16, I had lost my "joy" of movement and had become disillussioned with dance in any form. Nia gave that back to me and so much more. At last a module I could enjoy and even more so, want to teach!
I took my White Belt Intensive in September 2009 with Ann Christiansen and feel proud and pleased to be able to call myself a Nia teacher. I started to teach classes in May 2010 and love the feedback I get from the students and from my body! It still amazes me how my body, mind and spirit rejoice every time I take or teach a class. In February 2011, I took my Blue Belt with Ann in Johannesburg and loved it. I now have more information and tools I can use during my class, which are also carried through into my personal life. I love the fact that I am one of the teachers here in Durban giving exposure to Nia and offering a different form of fitness and movement to what is currently on offer and am up to 5 classes a week. The joy in me continues to grow. Nia is truely organinc in every way.
