Nia is a joyful practice, for both your physical body and your mind and spirit. Nia is a unique fitness technique that combines dance, martial arts and healing arts. I've practiced Nia for since 2004 and have been teaching full time since 2014. Nia is my passion and my favorite way to work-out. It has changed my body, my mind and my life. I've come to love my body, lost a few pounds, created new strength, improved my balance. I have less depression and anxiety and more inner peace. I'm more confident, self assured and joyful. How can a fitness practice do all that? I'll tell you.

I found Nia in 2004 after a friend took me to my first class. I was immediately hooked. In Nia, we dance, which I've always loved to do but hadn't danced in a long time until I found Nia. So I discovered my dancing self again and it's a blast. We free dance to incredible music, we use steps and stances to move together. Nia uses repetition so that you learn the move and then get to really "be" in the move. The world falls away, the chattering mind quiets, it's pure bliss. In Nia we use martial arts movements. We punch, block, kick and strike. We use our voices. When I first started to practice Nia, I was so afraid to use my voice. But I did and little by little I found that using sounds is empowering, powerful and cleansing. My confidence and self esteem have increased so much since I began practicing Nia.

Nia is about healing and health. We use yoga, Alexander Technique and Feldenkrais Method to learn how to align our bodies and how to sense our bodies. We each have a beautiful body, it's the only body we have. Nia teaches us to listen to and love the body you have. Move your entire body with joy!

I invite you to take a Nia class with me. You do not need to be a certain size, a certain age, have any special abilities or experience. We move in bare feet, so that our feet can be conditioned and our bodies can learn how to move in ways that don't cause injury. Shoes are always optional, please be sure that they are clean. Bring a water bottle, wear comfortable clothes for moving and get ready to have fun while doing something just for you!
