I recently discovered Nia and immediately fell in love with it and took my White Belt in Burntisland in the summer of 2013. As a remedial massage therapist, I treat so many people with injuries and chronic pain, not caused by any accident, but caused by not moving - mainly by sitting at desks all day. This is now fast becoming an epidemic and I treat younger and younger people all the time with musculoskeletal issues that we would normally see in people in their 60s and 70s. As a result of this, I studied to become a fitness instructor with the aim of getting people moving and exercising. Unfortunately though, the fitness industry these days is primarily about looking good and being "fit". Nia on the other hand is about feeling good and being healthy. To me this is what fitness and health should be all about. The Nia motto is "through movement we find health" - and I can say from my own experience that it really does work. Nia has the added bonus of being a whole lot of fun too. I love that it's a community and it's about like minded people getting together to enjoy themselves. It truly is completely holistic in all senses of the word. I didn't set out to be a Nia teacher, but it's too good not to share :-)
I'm based in Central Scotland and hold regular classes at the Yoga Tree Studios in Stirling on Friday's at 6pm (see www.theyogatreestirling.co.uk for more details). I also run a weekly class in the Coronation Hall in the village of Muckhart near Dollar, at 8pm on Thursday evenings. Come along and join in with what's likely to be a bit chaotic but fun and your mind and body will love it. Get rid of all that stress from the working week and start your weekend feeling alive!
Nia is for everyone of all ages and abilities. There is no right or wrong, no rules and no judgement in a Nia class. You move in the way your body wants to move. Everyone is welcome so feel free to drop in to the classes. Wear comfortable clothes and bring water. If you're coming along to the Muckhart class, bring a yoga mat or blanket too. Please give me a call or email me if you have any questions.
