About Me
With undying dedication to self-healing and mastery, Carlos AyaRosas has been a pioneer and a leader in the body-mind fitness industry since 1980. His extensive exploration of dance, martial arts, fine arts, music, therapy, and healing work inspired and developed into the creation of The Nia Technique, an internationally acclaimed program offered in gyms and fitness clubs, spas, wellness facilities, martial arts centers, dance and theater departments, college accredited PE programs, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, sexual abuse, cardiac-rehabilitation clinics worldwide. As part of the Nia Technique, Carlos' work includes head of Education and Training, and participation in the development lifestyle and educational products.
Together with creative partner Debbie Rosas, Carlos has co-authored two books, Non-Impact Aerobics and The Nia Technique, as well as the “Holistic Fitness” section of the AFAA Instructor Training Manual. The Nia Technique was the first to integrate concepts and forms from Eastern and Western practices into mainstream fitness, including dance, martial arts, and body integration techniques. The work has been instrumental in the evolution of the fitness industry, opening doors to more esoteric disciplines such as Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates. Today, The Nia Technique, Inc. is a thriving business operating in over 37 countries and managing approximately 2,200 Nia Teachers worldwide.
Devoted to the constant exploration of The Body’s Way, and to developing educational curriculum to share The Science of the Body, Carlos has been instrumental in developing programs for teaching professionals, teen departments at Shriner’s Hospital, and for arthritis and autism at Oregon Health and Sciences University. He has served to build Nia internationally and is considered to be a 21st Century Shaman.
Well loved by the press, Carlos and Nia have been featured in more than 800 publications and numerous television shows. He has presented at IRSA, The Northwest Fitness Summit, The National Wellness Conference, Whole Life Expo, International Spa and Fitness Association, Science and Consciousness and Sound Healers Convention, Mind Body Convention, OHSU, Fireman’s Fund and at Lucas Films, to name a few.
Carlos currently lives in Portland, Oregon, where he continues to teach and train at Nia International Headquarters, offering weekly classes and White through Black Belt level Personal Growth and Professional Training.
From Carlos ~ "Learning to teach, and teaching to learn. Since I was a little boy growing up in Mexico City, I've always wanted to learn and teach. It doesn't matter which of these I do. I feel when I do them, I am in my element. I am also on the right path.
Years ago I didn't know that dance/movement was also my element. Suddenly one day I felt myself one with movement and realized I could express myself through learning, teaching, and dance. This was instrumental in creating Nia.
Now I can wake up in the morning and know that at least twice during the day, I'll have an opportunity to teach, to learn, and to dance. This is my path to wholeness, healing, and transformation.
I am extremely excited about the possibility of meeting and working with other people who feel as I do. In the many hours I've spent Nia dancing, I've had the pleasure of knowing that the best is yet to come.
I hope I can be of assistance to you in your discovery of this very personal, magical world."
