Notes About This Event
Tyler residents will have the opportunity to participate in a 75-minute On Your Feet Nia Jam and Fundraiser to benefit the Lone Star Paralysis Foundation (LSPF), a nonprofit organization that benefits many who suffer from spinal cord injuries.
This event will be led by certified Nia instructors Kate Finlayson of Folsom, LA, Julie Wylie of Austin and Mary Mickens of Texarkana. The event will be held on Friday, October 5, 2012 from 6:00 to 7:30pm at Balance, 116 W. Erwin, Tyler. Kate Finlayson, who is also a Nia Trainer, grew up in Tyler and is grateful to share her passion of Nia for such a good cause. Her brother, Bud, was paralyzed from the neck down in a car accident in April 1976 and now lives in Forney with his wife Lety.
“As Nia practitioners, we honor the power of movement and feel the devastation that must come when movement is not possible,” says Debbie Rosas, Nia founder and co-creator. “We first learned about the work of LSPF when Nia’s Trainer of the Year, Holly Nastasi, told us of her son’s tragic accident in May of 2011. Daniel Curtis, Holly’s son, is currently quadraplegic and making great headway towards a full recovery with the help of LSPF.”
